Range-Based Relative Navigation for a Swarm of Centimeter-Scale Femto-Spacecraft

In-orbit relative navigation between a networked swarm of centimeter-scale femto-spacecraft would add considerable value to range space mission concepts and applications, such as for multipoint sensing distributed sparse aperture interferometry. For femto-spacecraft, position determination be possible by inferring coarse estimates from the received signal strength indication associated with communication link members. This is particularly advantageous highly resource-constrained devices. In this paper, algorithms positioning using interspacecraft are presented that can applied centralized, decentralized, network configurations. Relative filters initial orbit state estimation deployment dispersal scenarios. The could also find use in terrestrial static dynamic wireless sensor networks.
